2019 Crab & Fishing Derby

Welcome to the first QWOCMAP Crabbing & Fishing Derby to be held on Saturday, April 27 at the Pillar Point Pier and Picnic Area in Half Moon Bay, CA.

Lynn T. Sugihara is hosting this benefit QWOCMAP Fundraiser to support the organization in keeping the mission of all of its programs, including the Filmmaker Training Program and the San Francisco International Queer Women of Color Film Festival, free of charge. She says "this mission is very dear to my heart and I firmly believe that the word  'FREE' means greater accessibility to everyone.  Please come support me in this mission and please donate generously!"

ITINERARY

9:00 am
The DERBY begins! Start crabbing & fishing!

12:00 to 2:00 pm

Potluck Picnic: Grilled hamburgers and hot dogs provided. Please bring your favs to share and grill!

3:00 pm

Award ceremony with 2 prizes for:

1) The largest crab caught!

2) The largest fish caught! (and not some story of legend that your grandfather told you)

Crab ring nets, fishing rods and all the associated bait and equipment will be available for use. No fishing license required as long as you are fishing on the pier. 

Suggested items to bring:

Camp Chair, Hat, Sunblock, Sunglasses, Dress in layers, bucket (to take home your catch), fishing rods, crab nets, shade tents, food, drinks and any other related equipment for a picnic/ fishing outing.

Flush toilets are a short walk from the pier/ picnic area. This event is ADA accessible.

We may stay after dark to continue crabbing and you are welcome to stay to do so. Please remember to bring headlight, lamp light ,etc.

Pillar Point Harbor Pier Area  and Johnson Pier (Commercial Fishing Area)

From SF take Highway 1 South

Take right turn at Capistrano Road (Oceano Hotel Sign)

Take first left hand turn at stop sign onto Pillar Point Harbor Way

Take next right at stop sign and right turn at second driveway into the parking lot- businesses will be on the right hand side ( estaurants, etc.) 

Drive through parking lot forward to next parking lot segment and park in that area. The next adjacent parking area is for Marina residents only so do not park in that area (Resident Permit only)

Walk to the pathway to the far left along the marina and the trail will lead you to area where the BBQ grill and picnic tables are located. Each site has a view of the marina harbor. The small pier is located at the end of the walkway and to the left down a long path.

Directions from San Mateo Bridge: Take 92 West to Half Moon Bay

Take right turn on Highway 1 North

Go 4 miles North

Left turn at Capistrano Road ( large Oceano Hotel sign)

Left turn at stop sign to Pillar Point Harbor Way

Right turn at stop sign ( Johnson Pier) and two driveways down take  right turn into parking lot.

Proceed through parking lot (businesses will be on your right) and go to next parking lot segment. Park in this area only as next parking segment is for marina residents only. If no parking is available then park in the first segment.

Walk to the pathway to the far left along the marina ant the trail will lead you to area where the BBQ grill and picnic tables are located. Each site has a view of the harbor. The small Pillar Point Pier is located at the end of the walkway and to the left down a long path.
